FAQs
What is Henna made out of?
Henna is an all natural dye derived from the leaves of the henna plant (Lawsonia inermis). The leaves are grinded into an ultra fine powder and mixed into a paste with a blend of essential oils and then applied to the skin which leaves behind a reddish brown stain that fades away. It is an ancient form of beautification dating back thousands of years. Henna can also be used to dye/condition hair and even nails.
How long will it last on the skin?
The henna stain will last 1-2 weeks on the skin, depending on where it is applied. Areas such as the arms, legs and feet will last longer than on the hands where they are washed more often. Swimming, exfoliating, waxing and excessive scrubbing/washing of the hennaed area will make the design fade away faster.
How long do I have to leave it on for and how do I care for it?
The longer you leave the freshly applied henna paste on the skin, the deeper and darker the color the stain will turn out. The freshly applied paste will dry in about 30-40 minutes and then we recommend keeping the paste on for 4-8 hours for a dark stain. The warmer your body temperature the darker the color turns out. Keep hennaed area away from water contact the day of the application - so when you take the henna off, you should scrape it off and not wash it off. The color stain will then develop over 24-48 hours.
When should I have my henna done and how long will it last on my skin?
Since we only use 100% natural henna without any added chemicals or artificial dyes, the natural henna takes about 48 hours to fully develop its dark color. So it is highly recommended to have the henna / mehndi applied 2-3 days prior to your main event day. The henna begins to fade away 1-2 weeks after application, depending on the location and aftercare of henna.
